A 47 year old woman was left dead after the outbreak of a fire in a North York rooming house. The owners of the rooming house have been charged with several fire code violations due to the absence of a fire-alarm system and a fire safety plan along with the additional charges of breaches in fire separations.
This demostrates the importance of following the Ontario Fire Code to ensure that when a fire does outbreak there is a safety plan in place along with alarm systems to ensure that everyone residing inside the building gets out safely and survives.
The penality for these Ontario Fire Code violations run up to $50,000 and/or up to a year in jail, and up to $100,000 for corportaions.
