Training
The Training Division is responsible for developing and assigning monthly training schedules for each of the four platoons. In addition, the division delivers specialized instruction in areas such as water and ice rescue, confined space operations, pump operations, driver training, high-rise operations, and auto extrication.
A key priority of the Training Division is the ongoing development and physical readiness of all firefighters. It ensures that personnel maintain a high level of physical fitness and operational capability throughout their careers.
The division also collaborates closely with all other branches of the fire department to ensure that every aspect of service delivery meets the highest professional standards. Through this coordinated approach, the Training Division helps ensure that the department consistently provides safe, effective, and high-quality service to the citizens of Brockville.
Pre-Service Firefighting Program
The Pre-Service Firefighter Program offered by St. Lawrence College, in partnership with the Brockville Fire Department, provides students with comprehensive, hands-on training in a real-world fire service environment. Throughout the program, students train alongside experienced firefighters and gain practical experience at Brockville fire stations.
The curriculum is designed to prepare graduates for entry-level firefighter positions by combining theoretical knowledge with practical skill development. Upon successful completion of the program’s fire service components, graduates are eligible to challenge provincial certification testing administered through the Office of the Fire Marshal.
Successful candidates may obtain NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level I and II certification, as well as NFPA 472 (Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations). These nationally recognized certifications prepare graduates to pursue career opportunities with fire departments across Ontario and Canada.
